My name is Larry Hutchinson and I just completed the sale of my parent’s home in San Jose, California using Nina Daruwalla of Coldwell Banker as my real estate broker.

When my mother passed away last August it became necessary to sell her home which she and my father purchased new in 1963. The home needed major upgrades and repairs before it could be listed for sale. This presented a problem as none of the children lived close enough to organize and supervise this.

I chose Nina Daruwalla to represent us on the sale as she has the contacts for painters, contractors, inspectors, etc. necessary to get the work done. She obtained multiple bids for all the work and we made decisions together on what should be done and how much we could spend. This took several months to complete all of the work. Before it was listed for sale the house looked like new, both inside and out.

A little over a year ago, my husband and I relocated from the East Coast to the bay area due to a change in jobs. Being brand new to the area, we were uncertain of where we should live or even whether to buy or rent. We stayed in corporate housing for the first four months while we scoped out the area. Given that we were expecting our first child at the time, we ultimately decided that we wanted to buy a home preferably before our baby’s due date in July. We were put in touch with a realtor through my job’s relocation program. However, we quickly realized that we needed a realtor who was more sensitive to our circumstances and who would take the time to really get to know us and our preferences before bombarding us with multiple listings of homes just to make a quick sale.

Fortunately, we found Nina. From the beginning, Nina was clearly attuned to our specific needs without us ever even needing to explicitly state them. Before we had even agreed to sign up with her, she took the time to meet with us extensively so that we could have sufficient interaction with her in order to evaluate whether enlisting her as our realtor would be a wise decision. From that initial meeting, it was very apparent to us that Nina was not your average realtor. It was clear that she would go above and beyond her job description to find us the perfect house. 

And indeed, at every step of the way, Nina did go above and beyond the standard call of duty. She often surprised us with her intuitive perspective on whether we would like a particular house or not. In fact, by paying attention to unspoken subtleties, she was able to identify our perfect house within our price range within the first week of knowing her! 

Not only is Nina an excellent realtor who is determined and assertive, she is also a wonderful advocate who drives a particularly hard bargain and was able to negotiate very effectively with the seller of our house. She conducted a lot of research on the market and on comparable houses to ensure that we made a very informed decision when placing an offer. She also continued to search for houses for us even after we made the offer to make sure that we did not lose out on any opportunities should our offer have fallen through. Additionally, Nina is extremely detail-oriented and caught many paperwork errors (on the part of the seller’s agent) that could have proven quite harmful to us had they not been corrected at the time. She identified these problems and stayed on many an occasion late in the office as well as at home after-hours to address them. She was also always available to answer any questions we had and provided assistance to us throughout the loan application process (even though we did not go through Coldwell Banker’s preferred lenders). 

I could write pages and pages to illustrate how pleased we are with the fact that we chose Nina to be our realtor but, in the interest of efficiency, suffice it to say that we have no hesitation in recommending Nina as an excellent realtor. We have no doubt that all her clients would say the same!
